From Manhattan, New York to Manhattan, Kansas, Markquis Nowell has continued his standout play at point guard. Nowell played for Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, New York. He was the New York Daily News Brooklyn Player of the Year in 2018. Markquis was a dominant high school player among a crop of New York City phenoms that have made it to the NBA.
Among the names are: Cole Anthony, Jose Alvarado, Rawle Alkins, Moses Brown and AJ Griffin. Rising to the top among such serious company gives a clue as to why his Kansas State Wildcats are currently ranked #11 in the NCAA. Nowell dazzles on the court as he runs the point. His small 5’8” frame allows him to penetrate the paint with ease. Nowell always finds the best option and has dished an NCAA third best assist average at 7.7 per game.

The NBA has been trending with smaller guards in the recent years, leaving Nowell in a good spot to join his former high school adversaries. A good showing in the Big 12 Tournament could place K-State with a #2 seed for the dance, which would bring more eyes on Markquis. If Nowell keeps up this pace throughout March, it would be hard to think he doesn’t get a look on draft day.
