One game left. This is what everything builds toward. Months of games. Weeks of pressure. Now it comes down to one night in Indianapolis. (1) Michigan vs (2) UConn. Michigan is the favorite. UConn is the underdog. Winner takes the title.
Michigan enters as the team everyone has been watching. They have rolled through this tournament. Double digit wins. Control from start to finish. They look like the most complete team left. UConn enters with a different path. Close games. Late possessions. Moments that had to be won.
Head to Head and Season
The history is limited. These teams do not see each other often. Their last meeting came in 2015 in Michigan, when UConn beat Michigan 74 to 60. The two previous meetings before that were split, at home. That makes this matchup more about the present than the past.
UConn enters 34-5. Michigan enters 36-3. Both teams have won at a high level all season. Both have proven they can win in different ways.
Against the spread the records are similar. Over and under trends are also close. Michigan has been dominant away from home. UConn has been strong in these settings. There is no clear edge based on location or travel.
What Decides It
This game comes down to style. Michigan. Control. Size. Physical play. They can take over a game when they get comfortable. UConn. Movement. Patience. Execution deep into the shot clock. They force teams to defend every second of a possession. If Michigan controls pace they take over. If UConn stretches possessions they stay in it.
The Moment
This is not a series. This is one night. Players do not get multiple chances here. One stretch. One run can decide everything. UConn has players chasing history. Alex Karaban is one win away from a third title. Michigan is chasing its own moment. A dominant run means nothing if it does not end with a championship. They have one game left to finish it.
One Game
No safety. No reset. No next round. Forty minutes decides everything. This is the national championship.
Prediction
I am obviously Big10 biased, so whatever I say does not mean much. Enjoy the chip!
