UFC 294 – Alexander Volkanovski vs. Islam Makhachev

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski faces a monumental challenge as he steps up to face UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev on short notice. At 35 years old, Volkanovski aims to defy a trend that has seen older fighters struggle in title fights in lower weight divisions. He’s motivated to become the only fighter under welterweight to win a championship bout at his age. UFC 294 will be must see TV!

Odds Are Not in His Favor

The odds are stacked against him. Yet, Volkanovski is optimistic and focuses on the benefits of the situation. In reality, both he and Makhachev are in the same boat. However, the champion Makhachev faces more pressure.

Volkanovski Putting in Overtime

The short notice call for Volkanovski has made him put in a load of work in the last ten days. He has cut over 25 pounds in that short time. Volk has shown time and time again that he is a true professional and made weight with no problem. He is eager to avenge his only loss in the UFC. He will get a much-deserved shot at doing so this Saturday. Volk is determined to finish Islam before the final bell. He would love to continue building on their previous bout. In their previous meeting, Volk rallied back against Makhachev. Yet, it was not enough. Ultimately, Islam would secure the victory.

Makhachev’s coach, Javier Mendez, expects Volkanovski to take more risks this time. He’s not afraid of takedowns and believes he performed well on the ground. Khabib is back in Islam’s training camp. Makhachev has said he feels more comfortable and will look to fix the holes he left open in the first fight with Volk.

UFC 294 Prediction

In the MMA world, this bout is seen as an exciting main event and a historic champion versus champion rivalry. Volkanovski’s courage in stepping up on short notice adds to the fireworks that this rematch is sure to be. This is must-watch TV for MMA fans. Unfortunately, for Volkanovski, the tremendous amount of courage will not be enough to dethrone the champion. Look for Makhachev to find a submission in the later rounds of the fight, securing yet another successful title defense.
