Philadelphia Cycling Classic Returns With International Teams After 10-Year Hiatus

Elite professional cycling is returning to Philadelphia for the first time in a decade. The Philadelphia Cycling Classic presented by AmeriGas announced 32 professional teams will compete in the event on Aug. 30, including six UCI WorldTour teams across the men’s and women’s races.

Organizers say the event marks the return of one of the most recognizable single-day cycling races in the United States after a 10-year hiatus.

“We’re bringing the stadium to the streets,” said Philadelphia Cycling Classic co-owner Carlos Rogers.

The race will once again feature the event’s famous 14.4-mile circuit through Philadelphia, including the steep Manayunk Wall climb, Kelly Drive and sections near the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Officials announced both the men’s and women’s races will offer equal prize purses of $75,000 each, continuing the event’s commitment to prize parity.

The women’s race begins at 8:30 a.m. and covers 62 miles, while the men’s race starts at 12:30 p.m. with riders completing 120 miles.

Teams participating in the event include internationally recognized programs such as EF Education EasyPost, Lidl-Trek, Team Jayco AlUla and CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto.

The event will also feature a two-day Fan Fest with vendors, food, entertainment and family activities throughout race weekend.

Before the professional races begin, cyclists of all skill levels can participate in the Philadelphia Cycling Classic Charity Ride benefiting the American Association for Cancer Research.

The Philadelphia Cycling Classic first debuted in 1985 and became one of North America’s most recognized road cycling events before going on hiatus.
